Joel Embiid selects Sixers number

Check out the original article, from Philly.com, here.

It is worth noting that while Embiid Tweeted that he had selected #11, second-round selection K.J. McDaniels had that number at the introductory press conference.

It is also worth noting, that the recent injury to Pierre Jackson makes his making the team seem somewhat unlikely, and thus #55 may be available for Embiid after all.

A week after being selected third overall by the Sixers in the 2014 NBA Draft, Joel Embiid has settled on a uniform number.

In a conference call with media members earlier in the week Embiid said that he wanted to wear #55 with the Sixers, but since fellow new-acquisition Pierre Jackson wears the number for his grandmother, he would select another number.

Embiid has apparently decided upon #11 with his new franchise, sending out his selection in a Tweet Thursday evening.

“I’m getting #11. EMB11D #Togetherwebuild,” he Tweeted.

As you may recall, #11 was worn by Jrue Holiday throughout his four-year stint with the Sixers.

With a number selected, the next step for Embiid is to get healthy to enough to wear his jersey in some on-court action.
