Philadelphia had high hopes for Evan Turner after drafting
him with the second overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.
After three and a half mostly underwhelming seasons with the
Sixers however, Turner’s time with the team came to an end, and he was shipped
to the Pacers in a deadline deal that netted the Sixers a second-round pick.
There were expectations again in Indiana, as many thought
the addition of Turner would solidify the Pacers’ playoff chances. Instead,
Turner struggled in Indiana, and could not find consistent minutes as the
Pacers made their playoff push. Indiana’s season came to a disappointing end,
and Evan Turner, a free-agent who was just a few years removed from being one
of the top collegiate players in the country, faced an uncertain future.
Free agency began, and rumors were generated faster than
they could be reported, but aside from a few whispers here and there, Evan Turner
was not a topic of conversation.
Well, Turner’s immediate NBA future is no longer so
uncertain, as he is set to sign with the Boston Celtics, according to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald.
Although exact contract details are not yet available, Bulpettreports that Turner will sign for a portion of the Celtics’ mid-level
exception; probably not the contract Turner had hoped for.
It is an interesting signing for rebuilding Boston, who is
decently deep at the wing spot. Considering the contract though, it is not much
of a risk.
Turner signing with the Celtics also means that Sixers’ fans
will have an opportunity to see their former lottery pick a couple times a year
at the Wells Fargo Center.
