Joel Embiid has been quiet lately

After his selection by the Sixers last summer, Joel Embiid found a way to entertain the Philadelphia faithful without even stepping foot out onto a basketball court: Twitter.

Embiid's Twitter antics quickly became infamous - from courting Rihanna, to recruiting LeBron James, to championing the hashtag #WeAllFromAfrica, Embiid used the social media tool to provide the fans with a big glimpse into his personality.

Although there may have been a couple head-scratchers, overall Embiid's messages were funny, light-hearted, and extremely well-received. His number of followers ballooned, as the national news even picked up on Joel's growing online popularity. In short, no one had to wait too long to hear from Joel.

A year later however, the tables have turned. After an announcement that he would miss a second consecutive season to undergo yet another surgery on his foot, and a following delay in said surgery, Embiid is nowhere to be seen on social media.

The once high-volume Tweeter has not sent out a single message in over a month. His last messages came on Draft night, shortly after the Sixers selected Jahlil Okafor. Similarily, his last Instagram post came almost a month ago. Irionically, the captain said: 'My time is COMING.'

The timing of his internet absence is interesting, as he hasn't said anything since it was announced by the team that he would have a second surgery. Considering his past use of social media, you have to wonder if someone close to him or in the organization told him to lay low and stay off of it for the time being.

Media members have not been able to speak to Joel since shortly after his selection last summer, as injured players don't have to speak with the press. The lack of communication on Embiid's end, combined with what seems like a delay in his second surgery makes one wonder if maybe Embiid and the organization aren't seeing eye to eye on the issue.

While the selection of Jahlil Okafor served as some security, Embiid was the one labeled as a generational talent prior to the 2014 Draft, so it goes without saying that both the organization, and the fan base hope that a full recovery remains possible and that eventually Joel can contribute.

For the time being however, no one is exactly sure what is going on with Embiid or his second surgery, and he certainly isn't sharing any info.
