It has been quite a while since the Sixers won a basketball
game; 55 days to be exact.
Their 25 consecutive losses is now the second longest losing
streak of all time, behind only the futility of the 2010-11 Cleveland
Cavaliers, who dropped 26 straight the season directly after LeBron left.
The Sixers will have an opportunity to tie that mark on Thursday
evening in Houston, and to break it Saturday at home against Detroit.
While the Sixers have been busy trying to get a win, a lot
has happened elsewhere throughout the course of their nearly two-month long
losing streak.
Here is a brief list of things that have happened since the
Sixers played a better game of basketball than their opponent:
- -The Seahawks won the Super Bowl
- -The Winter Olympics occurred in their entirety
- -Groundhog’s Day
- -The Winter X-Games occurred in their entirety
- -Valentine’s Day
- -President’s Day
- -Evan Turner (who hit the game-winning shot the
last time the Sixers won) was traded
- - Dale Earnhardt Jr. won Daytona
- -LeBron James broke his nose, missed time, came
back with a mask, then stopped wearing mask
- -Allen Iverson’s number was retired at the Wells
Fargo Center
- -Mardi Gras
- -The Florida Gators won 17 straight games
- -Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared
- -St. Patrick’s Day
- -March Equinox
- -Kevin Durant scored 25+ points in 25 straight
games for the Thunder (and counting)
- -Michael Vick signed with the New York Jets
- -The Spurs won 14 straight games (and counting)
- -The Pacers, Heat, Spurs clinched playoff berth
This list really puts into perspective
how long it has actually been since the Sixers won a game of basketball.
And still, despite the extremely lengthy
losing streak, the Sixers don’t have the worst record in the league. Seriously,
how bad are the Bucks?
