LeBron James is the most underpaid player in sports

I have previously purposed the idea that, despite his colossal contract, LeBron James is the most underpaid player in the NBA, and maybe all of professional sports.

Taking into account both on and off court impact, I can’t think of another individual in sports who affects a franchise as much as LeBron, and apparently I am not the only one.

Recently the people over at complied an excellent infographic that illustrates LeBron’s impact on a team and provides proof that he is underpaid.

Some important points to take away from the image:

  • LeBron James is the 13th highest paid player in the NBA. Players ahead of him include Gilbert Arenas, Brandon Roy, and Elton Brand.

  • The year after gaining LeBron, the Miami Heat saw a 99% increase in their local TV ratings on Sun Sports Network.

  • From 2010 (Before The Decision) to 2012 (After The Decision), the franchise value of the Miami Heat increased by $93 million (from $364 million to $457 million), while the Cleveland Cavs’ value dipped (from $476 million to $364 million).
